These are three poems from my first collection of poetry, Mero Corazón. As a queer Tejana, Mexicana I represent my marginalized LGBTQ and Latinx community with pride gifting exposure to trans linguistic erotic representation. Growing up in a Catholic household, I held spirituality and the divine sacred. My work pays homage to the sensuous divine, esoteric spiritual world celebrating the sensual experience many of our mothers and grandmothers were unable to experience or articulate. Playing with the visual aspect of poetry, as a visual artist the white space is a form of foreplay and an invitation for readers to engage with the hypnotic effect, and indulgence of sensory pleasure. Being a language and poetry docent for the past 15 years, both in the U.S. and México, my professional and artistic paramount is to embody the bilingual universe I live in by modeling the importance of language, and translanguaging, gifting readers a multilingual immersive space to coexist in. My use of sensory detail, cultural exploration, spiritual threads, and emotional depth weave intricately sensual imagery, religious and cultural references. As a writer of vivid desire, I incorporate rhythmic flow using playfulness and provocativeness challenging readers to engage with their sensations. My fixation on the senses, particularly taste and touch, describe and indulges readers into symbolism that is woven throughout drawing parallels between the physical, spiritual, and divine. Bringing eloquent translanguaging that is both evocative and provocative, invites others to immerse oneself in the sensory and emotional journey. Mero Corazón is a journey of self-discovery, and a conscious pilgrimage into the introspective dialogue of the heart's pure desires where the sacral sensual, reverence and indulgence intertwine.
