For Ric "Let It Be Dance"
By Illia Thompson

The bundle of you arrives:
Troubadour from Big Sur.
Heavy jacket, woolen cap,
book-laden leather briefcase
guitar, your companions.

You enter my classroom
plant yourself firmly, ask for.
in turn, numbers from 2-222.
Each requested page showcased,
the platform of your performance.

Words & One-Liners, your syllabus,
interspersed with impromptu story.
Your audience woven into the voice
of your words remains past the bell,
longs to elongate your delight.

Though your planned return visit
cannot now be, when at loss
for lesson plans, I'll follow,
randomly pick a number,
and "Let It Be A Dance."
