Transitions

Sometimes, God brings times of transition to create transformation. — Lynn Cowell

I feast on what nourishes:
poetry, flowering garden,
morning walks along spindrift-fringed,
cypress-umbrellaed ocean bluff trails.

Fading hyacinth and daffodils
relinquish backyard stage
to fragrant orange and yellow floribunda roses,
nasturtiums, bronze bearded iris.

Hummingbirds draw sweet nectar
from tubular white foxgloves.
Hot lips salvia embellish mulched walkway,
seduce honeybees, overwhelm silver sage.

Lilies fade as summer approaches.
I find comfort in evidence of resurrection.
A higher power calls forth wisteria clusters,
perky explosions of hot pink azaleas.
