Keith Melton

Reunion

With Motown hired to cater soul--
innocents again, we toast the years
friends and family confirmed
yet so many long gone.
Little Denny on his motorcycle

Richard gone Hollywood, Sully dead in Vietnam
Randy with a penchant for armed robbery
Corley as fine a sprinter as ever was
and Jimmie who couldn’t climb out of the bottle.
Terry and Jane, guileless and sweet

gone 20 years, Christy, Kaye, and Pam
remembered in the photo-op of high heeled legend.
Mystery a victim
flash careworn, speed before wisdom
chivalry 30 years forlorn.

Talents buried in flowerpots
mortgages in a gated homily of days.
Before the news; memories of Ricky throwing the deep ball
his last play fading to gray
our doubts wandering, in halos of drunkenness.
