the sun
stillness on the horizon
turns to a shimmer
as the sun appears
making the sky glow
making me squint
into its depths
joy after days of storms
optimism
traveling across farm country
new corn shooting up through fertile ground
green and sturdy
waving in the breeze
fields stretching out across the landscape
rolling gently
a sign of hope
lake
water spreading out for miles
waves moving rhythmically
against the shore
washing the edges
of tall grass,
muddy perimeters,
approaching the road I travel
