The Birdhouse
A small birdhouse, plain and unadorned
hanging on a tree branch over the woodland trail
possibly hung there by the man
who maintains the woods
as an offering for nesting birds
for wrens and chickadees and tree swallows to use
I have never laid eyes on the caretaker of the woods
silently I thank him for work well done
