1. Introduction

To Readers of Monterey Poetry Review:

“Food is our common ground—a universal experience.” – James Beard

Welcome to our Fall 2024 issue where your editorial team has laid out a banquet of verse, art, and photography to arouse your appetite and satisfy a hunger for poetry and images. The work represents a diverse menu in terms of culture, gender, and experience. Some poems offer food for thought or describe specific fruits or vegetables. Others revolve around ethnic cuisines or explore rituals of meal preparation. Many poems celebrate coming together around a table to break bread, savor the link between memory and unforgettable flavors.

As my Italian grandmother would admonish, “Mangia!” Feast on the tasty smorgasbord we have served up in our current issue.
