Miracle at The Brighting Care Center
Think something like God,
lark song from a shadow,
mist lifting off the forest floor,
think eyes lost inside a cave,
a mind wandering a field of ice,
mouth open,
head slumping to a shoulder,
think bodies wheelchaired
like sacks of grain
into a community room,
arranged before Mr. Rhythm
and his karaoke machine,
Kent and His Guitar,
think a courtyard garden
beyond a bay window,
melodies taking flight,
lyrics warm as sunlight,
then think eyes sparking,
fingers tapping palms,
voices frail as silk in song,
Lazarus stepping forward
from the tomb,
trumpet, psaltery, timbrel playing,
heads nodding,
shoulders shifting to the beat,
same old beautiful, beautiful grin.
