Carousels by the Sea
revolving round and round
reaching for brass rings
to fulfill a purpose
on our brief rides
on rising tides
and falling pearl and sand-colored steeds
galloping in the weathered wooden shadows of
twinkling electric canopies
and swirling pink cotton candy clouds
spurred into motion
by faceless operators
at the center of everything
meant to bring us joy
two-faced mirrors
never seeing ourselves as others do
capture familiar scenes
of blurry-faced parents and grandparents
ever changing
fleeting
dancing to whimsical whirling notes
punched in yellowing, aging paper scrolls
filling the silver lungs of organ pipes
with temporary life
like everything
we will too soon miss
saltwater breezes
caress fixed flowing manes
always moving forward
so we never lose our way
