Scott Caputo

Where the Moon Finds Me

Out my front door into night,
balancing a tower of bottles and lids,
I feel a velvet gaze on my shoulder,
look up through illuminated cirrus,
vaulted cathedral crowned with brightness.

Inside my windows my sons tumble on the floor,
my wife finds a book hidden behind others.

Even if go back inside, the gaze will persist.
Not like the light over our sink full of dishes--
click—everything vanishes.
Clutter in corners, trapped desires
forced into dreams.
That gaze too bright even for curtains.
Something pushes in.
Pinstripes on blankets.
My core radiates infrared
through heart chambers, through sheets.
Light reaches light
down the path sleep takes.
