1. Introduction

To Readers of Monterey Poetry Review:

The newest MPR contains work by some of the usual suspects (rightly suspected of great writing) and some not so usual (great too). Pieces that stood out for me were the ten pet haiku of Penelope Duckworth, Bill Minor’s donkey poem, George Lober’s political poem, the Bali influenced works of Dan Phillips, Bonnie Schell’s ballad about betrayal, Laura Bayless’s local nature paeans.

There are also other old friends of mine and the magazine here: Dane Cervine, Dona Stein, David Sullivan, Gabriella Gutierrez y Muhs, Jennifer Lagier (who does remarkable work getting the magazine on line), Marina Romani, Ken Weisner, and some new voices, Deborah Wenzler, Yuan Changming, and others, all good poets but too many to mention.

A theme for this issue might be diversity. The poems address issues from poet’s diverse lives, whether metaphorical or actual. I believe every poet here is qualified to write about their topics, so the poems have rings of truth which expand like pond rings hit by raindrops. So enjoy the goodness. The issue is worth it!
