Workshop
first day of spring, your home in Santa Cruz
thirteen of us there to learn some more
about writing, poetry
to find, become familiar with
tools from the box you opened
to walk the line between
craft and creating
not letting what’s in our hands
these tools
take focus from our hearts to our heads
while across the room
on the kitchen table
by chocolate you’d bought for us
some tulips you’d also gotten
and placed in a vase
leaned softly
gently
into the light
morning
of this new day
