The Bluebirds Have Returned!
The bluebirds have
Returned
Normally March visitors,
It is late April now
I wondered
Would they return?
Or have they chosen a new home this
Year
Today they are here
Bringing Joy!
Flying and flitting
From giant sycamore tree to lawn to
Electrical wire,
Pulling bark from the tree,
Discovering tasty meals
From within
I first thought
Another unremarkable little brown bird
And then
The sunlight
Illuminated their feathers,
That breathtaking blue!
Libby Hagman resides in Carmel Valley, recently retired as a nurse. With a father who transmitted his love of poetry, and a godmother who introduced her to Neruda at a young age, Libby is finally sitting still enough to put words to paper.
