Transformations

As pandemic winds down,
summer weather explodes,
showers salvia and lilies in sunshine.
Scarlet, gold, purple flower heads
exude herbal perfume.
Blue jays strop dull beaks,
pluck caterpillars from wormy oaks.
A red-headed woodpecker
hammers bug-inspired Morse code,
clings to riddled telephone pole.
After sequestered months,
we resume interrupted daily routines.
Restaurants and bookstores reopen.
The isolated emerge.
Lime green cocoons split, spill Monarch butterflies.
Bright morning burns away
claustrophobic gray fog.
