Bandolier, New Mexico
Everyone needs to spend a little
time in the high-desert where
on cloudless nights you can stand
at the edge of the woven world
and take in the space between thoughts--
where you can look through
the moth-eaten quilt of the earth
and come to know the stars
as the raised glasses of the ancestors
in love-stricken pause
before toasting us—their children’s
children’s children—their faceted goblets
glinting as puzzles of light.
Prartho Sereno has four prizewinning poetry collections, including most recently, Indian Rope Trick (Blue Light Book Award), and her illustrated Causing a Stir: the Secret Lives & Loves of Kitchen Utensils. Poet Laureate Emerita of Marin County, CA (2015-17), she taught poem-making to children K through 12 as a California Poet in the Schools for over 21 year and currently teaches The Poetic Pilgrimage: Poem-Making as Spiritual Practice online. www.prarthosereno.com
