It is Enough for Now,
Villanelle for Mornings
It is enough in this first breath of morning
to lie here with you, light slipping between us,
our fingers laced, lids still swollen with sleep.
Enough to listen to the distant sound of the early train,
song of a buoys in the bay, wind bells in the breeze.
It is enough in this first breath of morning
to talk about the night’s dreams, and to dream
across seas, up rivers, into the wild hills,
our fingers laced, lids still swollen with sleep.
It is enough to hold onto each other,
to keep each other still and quiet in place.
It is enough in this first breath of morning,
enough to breathe in the sky, the bright of sun
crossing and washing the continents of our bodies.
It is enough in this first breath of morning,
our fingers laced, lids still swollen with sleep.
