Show Us the Way
While past Presidents rasp and rail unheard in their graves
The Constitution is shredded into worthless trash
Rule of law bent out of any shape known to the people
Greed, fear and selfishness has moved into American homes
The Golden Rule ousted onto the streets, homeless
Without sustenance or hope
I am grateful for Facebook’s funny animals
Who show us how to survive with humor
With compassion for one another of different species
Celebrate being alive in simple daily shenanigans
Unaware of the chaotic churning of human stomachs
Minds addled with retrogression, heartsick over
Upsurges in waves of violence by children, of children
Who wait now for their moment at the turnstile of death
I breathe deeply, surrounded by my man and four-footed family
Vaguely aware that the time to allow the darkness to pass
Has begun, a debridement through blighted-spirit
Elute sepia back to Technicolor
Reclaim homeostasis, our humanity
