Remember
Remember the planet you were born under,
where it was in the sky
when you took your first breath.
Imagine it listening to the stars
as they spun their constellate stories.
There was never ending brightness that day,
all because you were arriving--
Perhaps you came with arms outstretched,
ready to tackle this world again
or maybe it was your first time,
mouth and eyes wide open in amazement
as you slowly uncurled your limbs.
Stay amazed as long as you can.
It will help you when, in spite of intentions,
your heart is shattered like a glass
falling from the highest shelf.
Most things can be mended on this earth.
It takes believing, which is why
I remind you to remember
the day you were born as a miracle,
you spinning with planets, sun, stars,
then growing in your mother’s womb,
slipping out into the air,
your first cry startled, prophetic.
