1. Introduction

To Readers of Monterey Poetry Review:

The poetry in this Spring Issue of the Monterey Poetry Review explores the theme "below the surface" and features work from local, national, and international writers. Some of the poets whose poems have been included have appeared in previous issues. There are also poets who are appearing for the first time in the Review. Together, their writing presents a diversity of voices, styles, and perspectives.

It seems fitting, as we turn the corner on this year of pandemic, presidential election, political division, and so much loss, that we might now look forward to a revival of hope, renewed creativity, and harmony.

Stay safe and stay well!
