Illia Thompson

1/15/2022

Loss

Loss of loved one
as pain permeates my being
rests inside my heart
nestles, until one day
it decides to leave.

No eviction notice,
just its decision to vacate
familiar residence.

Autumn knows my longing
for my father's smile.

In winter I miss
the warmth of my mother.

Spring blooms past loves
while summer fades memories.

And when a friend announces
the loss of a loved one
I am at a loss for words.

Illia Thompson arrived on The Monterey Peninsula nearly five decades ago.  As an educator, she has been involved with pre-schools through college, turning her love of the written word to transform memories into writing classes which now allow memoirs to be shared and new friendships nurtured.  Three publications: Moments, Gracious Seasons, and Along the Memoir Way, hold her name, and her recent book of poetry and art, Liquid Time, written with her companion, honors love in later life.
