How Will It Be?
How will it be
when bombs stop dropping,
rockets aren’t fired
that tear bodies open,
leave buildings in rubble,
shatter families and dreams?
How will it be
when revenge is forsaken,
hostages released
because life is more important
than political power
or the glory of tyrants?
How will it be
when we no longer hear
a mother wailing
over her child’s limp body
after a terrorist
shot him down?
How will it be when rage
is held back by compassion
and hate shrinks
when we see others,
face to face,
in the mirror of ourselves?
How will it be?
