Tasting a Madrone Berry

a tiny thing
almost
a BB
or ball bearing
very small
mostly seed
tongue
feeling about
for the thin
layer of
meat
i was told
would
be there
sucking on
bitter skin
before
spitting it
out
puzzled
as to why
i put this
thing
in my
mouth
in the
first place
but
i did.
