To Readers of Monterey Poetry Review:

Welcome to the Summer 2019 issue of the Monterey Poetry Review!

This issue celebrates a changing of the guard. Long-time editor, John Laue, is stepping away to devote more time to his own writing and photography. We all owe him a debt of gratitude for everything he has done to support the writing community in the Monterey Bay Region.

After serving as co-editor, then editor of the Homestead Review for many years, I am now accepting the role of editor for MPR. I will be assisted in submission decisions by two women poets with whom I have collaborated for many years and whose editorial judgement I respect, Kate Aver Avraham and Laura Bayless. It is my vision that in the future we may expand to include guest editors responsible for selecting work to appear in special editions of the publication.

Within this “revival” issue, you will discover work by many local writers and artists, joined by past contributors to other local publications such as the Porter Gulch Review and Homestead Review. This time around, much of the writing and artwork was solicited. Future issues will be open to all who wish to submit, as long as they follow MPR guidelines.
