1. Introduction

To Readers of Monterey Poetry Review:

Honored to be Associate Editors, Kate Aver Avraham and Laura Bayless are pleased to introduce the Spring 2020 issue of the Monterey Poetry Review. The poetry and art submitted reflect an abundant and varied range of topics, emotions  perspectives and styles. Poet Mary Oliver wrote:

"Still, what I want in my life
                   is to be willing,
                   is to be dazzled,
to cast aside the weight of facts
                   and maybe even
                   to float a little
                   above this difficult world."

We hope you will find the offerings in this issue meaningful, enjoyable, perhaps "dazzling" here and there and able to lift and inspire you "above this difficult world."
Special thanks to Jennifer Lagier, Editor, for her dedication to keeping MPR alive and for all her work on this issue and those to come. Thanks, too, to John Laue, former Editor, for his many years of devotion to the publication.

As Rita Dove says, "Poetry is language at its most distilled and most powerful."
Thank you, poets and artists. We invite and look forward to your future submissions for the Fall 2020 issue later this year.
